November 14th, the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru is celebrated as Children’s Day. The history of Children’s Day dates back to 1956. Chacha Nehru loved kids and always believed and said that children should be loved and nurtured with care as they are the future of this country. When children would talk to him he would listen with keen interest and concentration. His love and passion for the children are the sole reason behind the celebration of Children’s Day in India. Before the death of Chacha Nehru, Children’s Day was celebrated on the 20th of November, on the same day as the Universal Children Day of the United Nations. But, after his death in 1964, it was decided to celebrate his birthday as Children’s Day or Bal Diwas.
To mark the special day, 14th November, school and educational institutions organise interactive and fun sessions and programmes. Children also ditch their boring school uniform and shine bright in their fashionable colored dress.
Children’s Day is a celebration for the children, but also for the parents as well. Parents should be aware of the desires of their children. Jawahar Lal Nehru always said that children are the future of this country and also worked for the welfare, development and education of the children. Children’s Day brings in thought in the minds of the growing children that they are the future of the country and should work hard to make this country proud.
Children’s Day is not just a celebration but is important to understand childhood in our lives. The principles and discipline we learn in our childhood are what molds into the person we are today. Thus, Children’ Day should be celebrated to remind everyone about the children’s rights to enjoy his/her childhood and education for a better life.
Children’s Day is a special day. The only day where teachers perform and entertain the children. Activities like dance, skit, and songs are held for the children. Many competitions like quiz, drawing competitions, elocutions, and fancy dress contests are also organized for the children. They also give the children gifts and food packets to bring a smile to their faces. Children’s Day is a special day to honor children and celebrate their presence. The day is dedicated to all the children with an aim to make them happy.
On this day children are pampered and given a special treat. Children’s Day is also one of the favorite days of the year for the children. This day is solely dedicated to them and everyone tries their best to make them happy. Children’s Day celebration is important to make people aware of the importance of children in the country and to make their future bright. So everyone should realize that children’s are the future of the country and are a valuable asset of the nation and the only hope for a better tomorrow. Children’s Day is a great way to shower love and respect towards the children’s and show everyone that children are the most valued ones.

Wonderfully written Shweta. The true essence of love and respect for children is getting lost. I hope people can read this to identify and once again remember why we started celebrating children’s day in India. It’s a great piece of info. Thank you.

So true. I love what you have written. Children’s Day is when you can teach kids to be good individuals but one day of extra pampering is not bad either…

Children’s Day is special for all children because no matter how old me get, there’s always a child hidden within us.

My kid awaits for the day very anxiously and he makes me promise a lot of things for the day. He acts like a king and I have to obey his commands. Lol

As a kid, I used to look forward to this day. With time, I feel the excitement has waded away a bit.
But since I have children, I encourage them to enjoy the day with their teachers and friends.
