TikTok Takes A Step to Increase Creativity Awareness and Fight Coronavirus
Everyone is familiar with one of the most popular mobile apps TikTok, but what everyone is not aware of is how it is working for the betterment of the country. The Covid-19 pandemic is a scare for the entire world. Many have lost their lives, and many are still fighting it. In these times, when everyone needs help, TikTok took a step ahead.
Recently while scrolling the feeds on TikTok s app, I came across the hashtag “# GharBaithoIndia ”. The hashtag interested me a lot and the videos even more. The #GharBaithoIndia campaign was launched by TikTok to keep people aware of the importance of social distancing and stay at home.
It was launched in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) India. It was used as a medium, where people could upload their videos on how to stay safe, make your time at home enjoyable and beat Covid-19. I saw videos of many popular creators, movie stars, and sports personalities who shared ideas and tips on how to stay entertained, informed, and productive at home. Popular names like Abby Viral, Tony Kakkar, Viruss, and Kartik Aaryan have created soundtracks, which the users can use to make videos.
The hashtag has gained over 41.6 billion views till now. The campaign helped me in exploring my interests while staying at home. There were many cooking videos, dance videos, DIYs, and videos that informed and educated me about social distancing. TikTok also donated 100 crores towards the medical equipment in India. To control the spread of Covid-19 donated 4,00,000 hazmat medical protective suits and 2,00,000 masks to the doctors and front-line medical staff in India. While we are sitting in our homes, it is the doctors and medical staff that fight on the frontline of the pandemic. They are more exposed to the virus, and that’s why TikTok took a step towards helping them out.
TikTok & in-app information page provides users with credible information from the World Health Organization and Government of India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Fake information is a major problem in social media and TikTok made sure that there are no false and misleading videos about Coronavirus on the platform. The in-app information page provides tips to stay safe and breaks the myth about Coronavirus. For people like me who are very active on Tiktok, it was a great learning source as well. This isn’t all, an in-app quiz was also conducted that aimed at educating the users about Covid-19 and with a promise to make donations to the PM CARES fund. Even I was a participant in the quiz competition. There were more than 7 million entries for the quiz. 30 crore rupees were donated to the PM CARES Fund, seeing the high number of participants.
TikTok has continuously supported the nation and the community during this tough time. Multiple initiatives, donations, and measures have been taken to fight this pandemic. So, while TikTok is supporting the nation to fight Covid-19, we should also do our bit to fight Covid-19.
