Tips to Stay Mentally Healthy During Covid-19
Its been a very long time since the world has witnessed anything so scary and deadly. The Coronavirus is growing every day. We have lost lakhs of people all around the globe and still, there are many who are fighting the war against coronavirus on the beds. India was on lockdown since mid of March, and over the course of 72 days, we have been facing a lot of problems and difficulties. The Indian economy has also been affected adversely due to this global pandemic, but most importantly the people are bearing mental pressure every day.
Thousands of people have lost their job. Thousands have been forced to take a pay cut. Some people are stuck alone, physical activities have stopped, the lifestyle has changed, and all these things are affecting the mental health of a person. People are taking more stress and having anxiety issues. Some are also making use of substance abuse. Hence, there are a lot of things that need to be fixed for better mental health during this global pandemic.
There have been more than 45000+ calls on mental health helpline numbers in the last two months. It is being predicted by experts that India can face a mental health crisis post the Covid-19. Hence, it is very important that we are aware of how we can overcome the effect of Covid-19 on our mental health.
Here are some of the ways to get rid of our mental health problem during the Covid:19.
1. Take A Break from News Channels
News is just being sold nowadays. All the news channels are now focused on Coronavirus, particularly the negative side of coronavirus, which is causing fear and stress among individuals that they will die if they are affected with Covid-19 symptoms. Taking a break from TV will let your mind forget everything and you will feel better both mentally and physically.
2. Stay Connected with Loved Ones
Loneliness is the biggest problem for our mental health. When we are alone only negative things pop up in our minds and then we tend to take severe steps to overcome them. People start substance abusing and some even have even committed suicide. Therefore, it is very important that we are active on calls, messages, and social media. We can stay socially connected on Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat while maintaining social distancing. Video calls with friends and family add up in cheering the mind of the individuals.
3. Build Your Hobby
Everyone has a hobby and it can be anything from playing guitar to cooking. While everyone is limited inside the walls of their house, they can start building their hobby again. There are multiple channels on YouTube where you can find everything that interests you. So, start playing the guitar again or cooking that delicious food for everyone in your house. This will keep the mind happy and counter the mental illness.
4. Meditate
It is highly recommended that you should meditate every day. It does not have to be a 1-hour long session, a mere 15-minute meditation session can do wonders for your mind and body. Meditation relaxes the mind and helps in building focus. It will help you lose every negative thing that is stuck in the mind and make you feel relaxed and energized. It is very important to meditate for the well-being of our mind and body.
5. Proper Sleep and A Healthy Diet
A healthy diet and proper rest are key to a healthy life. We should be very particular about what we are eating. Our plate should be full of nutrients along with a good taste. We should avoid drinking alcohol too. Rest is also important to keep our minds healthy. We should take our naps in time and try not to over-sleep. Maintaining a proper routine of eating and sleeping habit is very important.
6. Seek for Help
Sometimes taking a doctor’s help is the best thing to keep our minds healthy. There are multiple mobile applications that provide online services where you can talk to the doctor directly. Some people feel embarrassed when talking about taking help from the doctor for our mental health, but it is completely normal. We should not be worried about what others are thinking.
While we are still worried when the whole situation will be under control, we must not forget that it is important to keep ourselves healthy. We must avoid taking stress as everything is going to be normal in some time. We must make the most of the time we are getting now by spending time with our family members, learning new things, and enjoying while working from home. Always remember to follow the basic guidelines (social distancing and wearing a mask) if you want to get a Coronavirus-free country.
